MELANIE

Mel was born and raised in Warman. She moved to Saskatoon in 2001 and returned in 2008 after her daughter was born. Mel was athletic in her elementary years, enjoying gymnastics, swimming and track and field. Exercise wasn’t a priority for many years, until she joined a gym and completed a couch to 5km running program in 2015. In 2016 she was introduced to kickboxing and fell in love with the sport immediately. Unable to attend classes in Saskatoon she then picked up yoga at a local studio. Not a Gym opened shortly after the yoga studio closed and Mel attended the learn to row and kickboxing classes.

She forgot how much she loved kickboxing! With a little encouragement from the staff and community at Not a Gym, Mel received her level 1 kickboxing certification in 2019. She loves to make people smile and makes sure everyone has a great time in her class!

Amanda always preferred to get her physical activity in by exploring the great outdoors and would prefer to hang off the side of the Austrian Alps or hit the trails of the PNW, than be stuck in a gym on a treadmill... that is, until she found indoor rowing at NAG! Her rowing journey has helped her reach fitness goals that she didn't even know she had and she is excited to share her love of the sport with both the veteran and rookie rowers, through tailored rowing plans.

Jenel has been teaching yoga since 2008 and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

She fell into yoga from the group fitness world, teaching fitness classes and realizing her body wasn’t recovering well. After practicing on her own for sometime, she took her teacher training with Maureen Rae from Toronto & supplemented this with various trainings along the way, even from Jason Crandell her yogi idol. She loves catering her classes to what people need to balance out their lives.

Jenel works full-time as a project manager for the City of Saskatoon and when she’s not working you can usually find her at hockey rink. She loves coffee, chocolate covered almonds, walks, gardening, golfing and being outside.

KRISTIN MCTAVISH

Kristin has always been an active person. She grew up twirling baton, playing fastball, volleyball, golf and any other school sport she could. Her love for coaching started early on, when she became a junior coach for her baton club in her early teens.

She took a few years off from coaching after having kids, but once her daughter was old enough to play fastball herself, the coaching itch struck again. Kristin continued to coach her son and daughter’s fastball teams for the next 13 years, even playing a few games alongside her daughter in the last couple years!

After falling in love with kickboxing and kettlebells and becoming a member at NAG in Dec 2019, Kristin knew this was a community she wanted to be a bigger part of. She took her Level 1 Kickboxing in Feb 2021. She is excited to try and fit in her Kettlebell Instructor’s course this summer in between being at the gym and out on the golf course outdriving the boys!!!

For the past 14 years I have had the honor of being able lead a wide variety of large and small groups of individuals through Spin, TRX, Power, Fight and Bootcamp classes. I love to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all people to come as they are and to lovingly embrace their personal health and fitness journeys.


SHAY

Shay was never considered athletic growing up. She tried all sorts of sports but never really got into working out until her mid-twenties when she discovered Muay Thai. That put her in the best shape of her life before having two girls. It wasn’t until two years ago that she started picking up weights and this is where she discovered the kettlebell. When she began to see Kettlebell Kickboxing posts on Facebook she was hooked on the style. Martial arts infused with kettlebell was such an intriguing concept. Last July she took the plunge and became certified to teach. This along with her recently obtained Kick certification will allow for some amazing full body workouts.

Her ultimate goal is to share with others what Kettlebell Kickboxing is all about and how it can help you reach your goals.
